This is the second of Roy Berkeley’s Martin guitars, Martin 00-28 that we have been honored to sell. It would be a collector’s piece only in it’s historical value of having been an integral part of the folk revival. I’m sure Roy would have wanted her to be played and enjoyed for what she is. She has had extensive repairs over the years, and with her last trip to the rehab clinic is now in perfect playing condition. As for the repair list here is what I know: the fret board is not original; the top was recently removed and rebraced by our repairman Jack O’Brien to eliminate the ski jump behind the bridge and make her playable. Originally built for gut strings, using steel strings caused this problem over the years. The center of the top was patched long before we got her. Repaired cracks in the back and sides are now stable. The playability is excellent and the sound everything you would hope for in a 100+ year old guitar- warm, rich and most wonderful.
