One of Maple Leaf Music Company’sĀ favorite models, a Dreadnaught with slope shoulders. A guitar that Huss & Dalton excels at and this one is really custom with sinker mahogany back and sides, Italian spruce top, 1 3/4 nut and no sunburst. The scale is 24.9-short. Clear trebles and mondo bass. You can’t get a better guitar these days than an Italian/Sinker H&D, but please don’t tell other dealers because we’re trying to keep a corner on them!
“If you like wood with a story, it doesn’t get any better than this: The British exported a lot of Honduran mahogany when Belize was the colony of British Honduras. During the 19th century, the rivers were used to float the wood to ships; occasionally the denser logs sank. Lost for over 100 years, they were rediscovered and salvaged with small boats and pulleys and were sawn in Belize using local labor. The material was kiln dried in Belize but has been restickered to give the piles air flow for more dryness. Due to the age of these logs, all this material would have been old, or first growth timber. The color is excellent and the grain is tight. Some is figured and has a very interesting natural edge with texture that has been sculpted by the river. It is very pleasing to the eye.” Huss and DaltonĀ found that this incredibly dense mahogany gives a very rich tone and volume that is on a much higher plane than their standard mahogany. We agree!
