Pomeroy mandolins are hand constructed in the United States by master craftsmen Don and Josh Paine, a father and son team.  Being former residents of Vermont, we discovered their powerful, beautifully constructed mandolins and immediately began a dialog to establish a retail representation for them.  We LOVE these mandolins.  They are immaculate in their point to point construction and their tone is breathtaking: woody with clearly distinguished highs and a nice effective cut.  They are loud and brilliantly so.

In 2001 Don Paine shifted from working primarily as a woodworker to devote himself full time to blending his love for music with his professional building skills.  He established his first mandolin building studio in the high mountains of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  Initially Pomeroy Mandolins specialized in F-5 Gibson archtop replicas and as the demand grew, they expanded to build the A-2 and A-4 mandolins traditional to the Gibson oeuvre.  His mandolins have been describes as an ‘old Gibson on steroids’.

Josh Paine, Don’s son, took an interest early on in the process and started his career building guitars, gradually transitioning in 2008 into building mandolins full time.  His craftsmanship is consistent and his ear for tone astounding.  He strives to build mandolins that impart rich, crisp tones that are at once full and resonant but with excellent pop and bark, all the way up the neck.. every Bluegrass players dream.

What we particularly love about Pomeroy Mandolins at Maple Leaf Music is that many of the woods are sourced in Vermont and Colorado and they are sustainably harvested with selective cutting methods.  The englemann spruce and the curly maple are two of the woods that they utilize in their work that is harvested ecologically.  This speaks to their understanding that instrument building of the highest caliber can be achieved with sound construction, quality materials, an ear for tone and sustainable methodologies.
