Tune Books
We carry as many of the in-print tune books as are published today, including many imports. If you are looking for a particular tune, please contact us and we will search in our the books for you. Sometimes book prices increase; I do my best to keep up with the increases but with so many books on the site, I am apt to miss a re-pricing from a distributor. So I may have to charge you a few dollars more than our listed price- but only if the price has gone up for us! Thanks for your patience in this matter.

- Irish Fiddle Solos $19.95 with CD
- Pete Cooper
- This collection follows a journey, county by county from the South to the North of Ireland. Leading exponents of each regional style are acknowledged in the short texts about the tunes. Tunes are presented both in the book and on the recording in sets, rather than individually. This accords with traditional performance where tunes are grouped for both informal playing sessions and at ceilidh dances. A set usually consists of two of more tunes of the same type (jigs or reels), each tune being played three times before changing to the next. An excellent section on bowing and ornamentation is included at the beginning of the book, with exmaples from selected tunes. Fabulous documentation on each set of tunes. Interestingly enough all the text is written in English, French, and German. And an extra bonus- a county map of Ireland so you know where you are! Chords included too.

Besides the jigs and reels, more unusual tyne types such as a large O'Carolan section, and polkas, flings, slides, airs and folksongs(without words) are included. This is as thorough and well arranged and easily readable book as I've seen - highly recommended.
- Irish Session Tune Book $17.95
- By Cari Fuchs
- 300 tunes collected while playing at Irish tune sessions.
- Irish Session Tunes-The Blue Book $14.95
- Ed. Brid Cranitch
- This is a unique collection of Irish session tunes in that the tunes are arranged in sets, in the order that they would be played in a live situation. This is the only book I know of that is arranged this way, and therefore is quite valuable to musicians. Brid says" The tunes that make up each set vary from region to region and are also dependent on the instruments being played. What's more tunes go in and out of fashion; then there are the 'classics' which are heard in session no matter where you are, for example 'Cooleys" and 'The Wise Maid'. This collection of session tunes is by no means definitive, but is based on the many sessions I have listened to and played in.

- Irish Session Tunes-The Orange Book $14.95
- Brid Cranitch
- Irish session tunes in sets, selected by Brid Cranitch. This collection of session tunes sets is made up of 2 or 3 tunes per set. Like "The Blue Book" it works best when you learn the tunes in order of how they are traditionally played in an Irish session. This second collection contains more reels than the previous one. This is because you, the learner, are improving all the time so you can better handle the reels! An optional CD is available upon request.
- Irish Session Tunes-The Red Book $14.95
- Ed. Matt Cranitch
- This collection of 100 tunes contains a vaired selection, some of which are popular and widely played, others not as well-known. The different dance rhythms-double jigs, slip jigs, slides, plokas, reels, hornpipes and set dances-are included. Traditional music is subject to continuous change and variation as it is passed from one player to another, so there is no exact version of any tune. Those given herein may be considered 'fiddle versions', in that they are suited to this particular instrument. However, they are also suitable for other instruments, though it may be necessary to modify the tunes slightly so that the notes fall within the range of the instruments. Again, this series is neatly written and clearly laid out.
