Vermont luthier Scott Hausmann has recently started producing a line of basic Whetstone ukes and guitars in addition to his fancy high-end guitars that we have sold here off and on during the past few years. He works here in Brattleboro, building instruments at Whetstone Guitars, and teaches guitar and ukulele building courses at his Whetstone School of Lutherie. Building instruments since 1975, he has worked at both Gurian and Froggy Bottom Guitars.
We are very excited to be the sole retail representative of Whetstone, not only because it is local and we believe in supporting local business, but because Scott’s work is really good. Stop in Maple Leaf some time to check out his various guitars and ukuleles- you will be suitably impressed.
This particular uke is simple and astoundingly good sounding. No fancy decoration and finished with environmentally friendly Tung Oil that is water resistant and protective, yet has a rich hand-rubbed look that’s durable and easy to maintain. Clear, bright and loud sound, reminiscent of the great Hawaiian ukes. The best soprano in the shop.
