Madagascar Rosewood

Madagascar Rosewood: Dalbergia baroni

Most similar in sound and appearance to Brazilian rosewood, it is still less costly and more available than Brazilian. It is a truly beautiful and great sounding wood. The trees are small and narrow; most Madagascar backs are undetectably made of 4 pieces rather than the standard two. Like Brazilian, future availability of Madagascar Rosewood is uncertain. In March 2010 the Malagasy government announced a ban of the rosewood export for a period between 2 and 5 years. However some builders have good stocks of it. Froggy Bottom has a stash of really nice old stock Madagascar. We have on order from them a C deluxe with an Adirondack top.  Call or e-mail and we will contact you when it arrives.
