Mahogany top wood is always used in guitars that have mahogany back and sides. Yes, an all mahogany guitar! Tonally, these instruments have tremendous longevity, improving with age. They never become sloppy sounding. They are prized for their clear, strong fundamental, full trebles and they are often described as ”woody” sounding, good for many styles of music including flat picking or bluesy finger picking.
Pioneered by the Martin guitar company in the 1920’s, these guitars were originally the budget guitars of the line, plain and usually without binding. If you can find a 50’s 0-15 Martin you are in luck! And we are all very pleased that both Santa Cruz and Bourgeois are now making fantastic small-sized all mahogany guitars.
